Dear Lovely People Who Read Memoir,

We are thrilled to celebrate November 2023 as the sixth anniversary of Memoir Magazine!

Thanks to your unwavering support, our magazine has been a platform for stories about people’s lives, often from voices other magazines ignore.

As a woman of color, back in 2017, many odds were stacked against me. The field of memoir itself was almost exclusively white and limited in scope. Elitist literary magazines dismissed memoir as a genre and online magazines as unworthy. Fewer still supported my ideals for memoir beyond literature, as a conduit for personal growth and social justice. Yet, with stubborn grit and singularity of vision, we’ve created lasting and enduring initiatives like the Memoir Prize for Books now in its 4th year, and special editions on MeToo, Guns and People, and Recovery, and others.

As we celebrate this milestone, we’re excited to announce our plans to publish “Black Memoirs Matter,” our first anthology, a testament to our commitment to centering writers that are otherwise marginalized in memoir.

However, we need your help to expand our work supporting writers from all walks of life and continue publishing these empathy-spreading stories that need to be told now more than ever.

Can you donate $25 or more to help us raise $10,000 by the end of the year?

Please consider making a tax-deductible donation today.
